Hey everyone, Mike here! This weekend was a busy one, but an awesome one for sure. We had the pleasure of starting our weekend out at Historic Shady Lane, one of our favorite venues – helping Jenn Barnes and Anthony Wisman become Mister and Misses Wisman. Helping them plan out the soundtrack and logistics for their big day was a joy, mostly because they were so great to work with – but seeing everything come together on Saturday was a textbook example of a great day for a great couple, attended by great people.
Ceremonies at HSL are pretty epic. There’s a number of configurations that they can accommodate – but the one that we see most often there is the ceremony down below by the stream, in front of the house. It’s secluded, quiet, and no matter how many people are attending, it’s intimate.
The cocktail hour moved the guests into the greenhouse area of HSL, which is always a nice place to hang out, especially on a warmer day. And by warmer, I mean hot and sunny. The weather was amazing, but definitely on the toastier side and with a lot of ample space to spread out and chill (literally), HSL’s again a winning option for couples who want an upscale outdoor wedding.
Jenn and Anthony wanted a relaxed mix of pop, country, and indie music during cocktail hour. This was the list that we went with, and we think it suited the atmosphere very nicely.
They had the venue done up in salmon-pink tones, with rustic and country accents. It was really, really pretty.
Then came introductions, the first dance, toasts, and pretty soon the night was flying by. Dinner was provided by The Uncommon Caterer, which is actually an incredibly *common* thing for us to see these days; we love working weddings where they’re the caterers because they treat guests, vendors, and everyone so awesome. Plus, the food’s great, so there’s that. 🙂
For dinner, Jenn and Anthony wanted to lean a little heavier on the country, but definitely wanted it to be an upbeat mix of love songs. These were some of the songs they picked, and some of the songs that we added in to help pad out the dinnertime soundtrack.
Dancetimes really amped up quickly. Once the sun set, we took the guests on a tour of the best in dance music across five decades, and ended on some slow dances that tied the whole night together.
We’d like to thank Steve and Lauren of HSL for being awesome hosts, as always, Trinity Walker Keefer of SummerHousePhoto for taking awesome pictures, as we’re sure she’ll post soon, The Uncommon Caterer, Rev. Kelly Jo Singleton, the awesome guests, and of course – Jenn and Anthony for trusting us with your big day. Glad you had a great time, hope you have an equally awesome time in Mexico!
