Day 3 of 14 Days of Valentine’s Day

Today we hear from a wonderful couple!

Lindsey and Chris were married at the Fireside Tavern in Strasburg on August 20, 2011.

Here is Lindsey’s story:

“During the summer of 2010, after three years of dating, Chris and I decided to book our first week-long vacation together. We settled on Key West, Florida with its beautiful beaches, adventurous water sports, amazing dining, and exciting nightlife.

We arrived in Key West on Sunday, August 23rd after flying from Baltimore to Miami to Key West. After checking into our room at the Avalon Bed and Breakfast, we hit the beach to soak up some sun.

If you know me, then you know I am very Type A. (Eric and Mike can vouch for this, seeing how I organized music for our wedding reception.)

I plan things down to a T, even when on vacation. This includes where we will eat, what activities we will do, and what outfits we will wear for each day. And if you know Chris, then you know he is the complete opposite: the go-with-the-flow type.

In typical Lindsey fashion, I had a restaurant picked for dinner and after-dinner plans all figured out.

However, Chris kept mentioning how badly he wanted to catch the sunset that night. Key West is known for its gorgeous sunsets, and it has been well-deservedly nicknamed the Sunset Capital of the World.

So after dinner at the Half-Shell Raw Bar, we hopped on our mo-ped and headed to Mallory Square.

To Chris’ disappointment, the evening was partly cloudy, and Mallory Square was so packed it was hard to find a good spot for sunset-viewing.

We hopped back on our mo-ped and headed to a tiny pier by the Southernmost Beach.

By then it was nearly dark, and there was no sunset to catch, so we sat on the pier and talked while listening to the sounds of the sea.

After a while we decided to call it a night.

Chris stood up and reached down to pull me up. In doing so, he accidently stood on my foot. By that time I was on my feet, and was surprised to see Chris bend down to kiss my foot as an apology for stepping on it.

We were both laughing, and then I realized Chris wasn’t moving fast to stand back up. Looking closer, I realized he has pulled out a tiny blue box from his pocket. Then came all of the reasons why he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me, followed by the question, “Lindsey, will you marry me?”

To which I responded, “OF COURSE!”

Many happy tears followed in addition to rose petals, chocolate, and champagne back at our B&B.

Chris hadn’t planned to propose the first night of vacation, but he said he was so nervous and excited that he couldn’t wait any longer.

It worked out perfectly because then we had the entire week to celebrate our engagement together in Key West.

Looking back, I remember how protective Chris was of his carry-on bag (because that is where he had my gorgeous ring hidden) and how nervous he was all evening before he proposed. I didn’t pick up on these hints back then, but thinking of them now makes me smile.

Three and a half years later, and with a baby on the way, we’re just as happy and in love as we were back then.
