Greetings, all! This past Friday ProVolve Entertainment had the honor of MCing and DJing the ceremony and reception of Natalie and Waverly Garber. This wedding was unique for a bunch of reasons, but the thing that will always make it stand out in my mind was that Eric was a guest at this wedding, I soloed, and I knew about half the people there. One of the perks of doing weddings for friends and family is that you get to hang out with familiar faces, catch up, and have a great time.
The Ironstone Ranch in Elizabethtown was where they chose to have their wedding and reception. It’s an incredible 200+ acre horse farm, and although it was a really hot and humid day, by evening the sun cooled off and people were either dancing in the barn, or outside socializing next to the campfire. There was a lot of room to sprawl out and people were making smores, going on wagon rides, and of course, dancing.
The crowd really, really liked the older stuff. Sometimes younger people don’t like the older music but I started off with a classic set of some timeless dance tracks, and by the time we opened up with the newer songs, people were ready to get wild. It was extra funny to see Eric and his wife dancing about 10 feet away from me at all times – surreal in that I’m used to having him behind the table with me. My favorite moment of the evening was the crowd’s reaction to ‘Apache’ immediately after ‘Cha Cha Slide’… I think those songs go perfect together and apparently the crowd agreed!
One thing that I really wanted to do was give a plug for Brittany’s Hope Foundation – me making an announcement off a card was part of the deal, but the owners of the place never gave me any materials on it and by the end of the night it never really happened, but I wanted to take the time to personally endorse and recommend that you check out this incredible foundation. Eric and I personally know a member of the Abel family and have seen firsthand their devotion to making meaning within their mission. From their website:
“We resolve to facilitate adoptions of special needs, older and sibling children by providing financial grants for special waiting children; to actively seek out healthy and happy families who can offer love and support to special needs children; to raise public awareness of the need for healthy homes for special needs, older and sibling children and to raise public awareness of the unique joys of parenting a special child.
We dedicate our work to improving the quality of life for all God’s children, especially those who wait in institutions or orphanages, live in extreme poverty or under the duress of slavery, abuse or war; and we seek, create and support humanitarian programs which accomplish these goals and extend all efforts to champion and campaign for children’s rights regardless of race, religion, or country of origin. “
Thanks again to everyone who was there on Friday to make the wedding a blast, and congratulations once again to Natalie and Waverly!
