How to Choose Songs for the Dollar Dance

Not everyone wants to do a Dollar Dance, and that’s totally fine, but if you do, here are 8 tips to help make it awesome!

1. Before even deciding on, “Yes, let’s do the Dollar Dance,” talk it over and make sure you have the kind of crowd (Family + Friends) that want to dance. Some families are more into drinking; talking, catching up, and others are into partying and dancing the night away. Make sure to scan the family and friends list to see if this is their kind of thing!

2. Pick some really fun slow songs that you can vibe to while catching up with your dance partner. Remember, this might be their only real time to talk with you, because you’ll be dragged in 100 different directions all night.

3. Make sure the DJ announces the Dollar Dance and builds it up so that people want to get on the dance floor with you.

4. Do it early! If you’re dealing with an older crowd, they tend to call-it-a-night earlier than your younger family and friends. Don’t lose out on those dollars!

5. Have two people designated to hold a hat or a basket for those dollars. Maybe even recruit another two people to politely and nicely ask people to enter the line!

6. If you’re dealing with a long line, make sure to keep it moving! Dollar Dances can go on and on and on. Don’t forget that people want to DANCE! So don’t get too bogged down with the Dollar Dance. It should last no longer than 2-3 songs. Get people back on the dance floor.

7. Enjoy the time you have with each person, because it’s truly their time to chat with you one-on-one and that’s very important.

8. Give a big hug before they walk away, they put themselves out there, so make sure they feel special as they leave the dance floor.
