Mike and I (Eric) DJ’ed for the new Mr. and Mrs. Dennis and Kate Kelly at the Wyndham Garden in York and it was a HUGE party!
I went to Millersville University with Kate; we were in the same major and even had some Communication classes together (back in the day! )
We kept in touch throughout the years via Facebook and I was thrilled when Kate reached out to tell me she was engaged and to ask if we could meet about DJ’ing her wedding!
Our first meeting took place at the Panera in York where I got to meet Dennis and Kate’s father Steve. It was great meeting with the three of them and I instantly knew this would be a great time.
The planning process was very simple and Kate and Dennis were such an easy couple to work with – couldn’t have asked for more wonderful couple!
Mike and I have never been to the Wyndham Garden, so it was fun to DJ at a new (to us) venue – we always enjoy experiencing different venues.
Dennis and Kate held their cocktail hour for family and friends in the indoor pool area of the hotel where we played some modern pop love songs that included Adele, Dave Matthews Band, Bruno Mars, and Norah Jones (to name just a few).
After cocktail hour, the guests were led into the Crystal Ballroom where we acknowledged Kate’s grandparents and parents, Dennis’s parents, the bridesmaids and groomsmen, and then finally the newlyweds! It was one of the more high-energy introductions we have had in recent memory. The guests were cheering loudly the entire time.
After the uproar died down a bit, it was time for Dennis and Kate to have their first dance together as husband and wife! They danced to “Bless the Broken Road” by Rascal Flatts.
We went right into the father-daughter dance where Kate danced with her father Steve to Tim McGraw’s “My Little Girl” followed by the mother-son dance with Dennis and his mother Connie dancing to “Forever Young” by Joan Baez!
Welcome, Blessing, and Toasts
Kate’s father Stephen provided a wonderful and funny welcome speech that was followed by a blessing from Kate’s cousin. After salads were served, Kate’s Matron of Honor Kelly McKinley gave the first toast which included a funny reference to the name Kelly (Matron of Honor named Kelly, Kate marries a guy whose last name is Kelly!). Then Dennis’s Best Man Michael gave a great toast that explained their relationship is more brother-like than friend-like.
Dinner was delicious and the music was equally great as we played a modern mix of Country love songs!
At the tail end of dinner, we opened the dance floor by playing the anniversary dance which packed the dance floor with many couples! Usually once we announce 30 years, the dance floor nearly empties. This crowd stayed strong until we arrived at the longest-married couple: Kate’s grandparents! They have been married 59 years!! It was a cute moment as they danced to “At Last” by Etta James. After the song ended, Dennis and Kate had their photo taken with Kate’s grandparents as they presented them with a beautiful bouquet of flowers!
Open Dance Floor
The party was a huge success and the music varied from oldies to 80s to disco to Top 40/Hip-Hop! It was a heck of a time!
At one point we stopped the music for a special presentation: The bridesmaids took the shirts off of the groomsmen to reveal that they were wearing superhero T-shirts under their tuxes!
We had such a blast!
This was a heck of party and a great time! Thanks to Dennis and Kate for a memorable party – have fun in Turks & Caicos!
