This past year was a pretty good one for music and I got to play some old favorites and new jams for some awesome couples. I always tell couples that cocktail and dinner are the best times to really inject themselves into the music, you can play just about anything you want to hear and really let their personalities show.
Here’s a list of my favorites from the year.
She & Him- I Was Made for You. A fun retro-sounding love song.
Bobby Darin- Beyond the Sea. Can’t go wrong with a classic.
Sam Cooke- You Send Me
Lumineers- Ho Hey
Mumford and Sons- The Cave. Love the current folk/bluegrass revival.
Ingrid Michaelson- The Way I Am
Ben Folds- The Luckiest. It’s like the geek rock version of “Bless the Broken Road.”
Zac Brown Band- Chicken Fried. I’ve had several weddings that wanted a good bit of country this year, this one always gets toes tappin’ as dinner winds down and dancing is about to begin.
Stevie Wonder- Sign, Sealed, Delivered. Another one to get the body in the mood to move.
Los Fabulosos Cadillacs-El Matador. This song makes the list even though I only played it once, but it’s an awesome song and the crowd reaction was amazing at a wedding that reintroduced me to this song after hearing it in Grosse Pointe Blank years ago.
Black Eyed Peas- I Gotta Feeling. This song still gets a dance floor going.
Avicii ft Aloe Blacc- Wake Me Up. At first I was skeptical, but I love Aloe Blacc’s voice and this song is awesome.
Capital Cities- Safe and Sound. These guys seem to have a great sense of humor.
Daft Punk- Get Lucky. This one’s been covered, but it’s my favorite song of the year in a year full of retro sounds, DP dominated.
