Rhodes Wedding Recap

This past Saturday, I, Mike, had the pleasure of helping Danielle Shumaker and Christopher Rhodes become Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes at the stunning Armstrong Valley Winery in Halifax, PA. To that it was fun was a complete understatement, but let’s take it from the beginning so we’re sure to get all the details.

When I met with Danielle and Chris many months ago, they said that they wanted a friendly, but FUN wedding reception, and they were a really laid back couple. I wasn’t worried at all about their music selections, and when we touched base to see what they had in mind, I knew we were on the same page.

On the big day, we were a little worried. It had been raining all morning, and as I drove to Halifax, I was utterly convinced that this was going to get rained out. I rolled in convinced that we’d be holding the ceremony indoors, but the event coordinator said that they were going to press on, because they thought they could see blue sky at the edge of the horizon. I thought it was a bit of a gamble, but they had a tent set up, so the ground wasn’t too wet. I set up the stuff, and before too long, the sky was definitely clearing up.

For the ceremony, Danielle had a family friend play (a really, really nice) guitar and sing for the music. It was nice – he played songs like Blackbird by the Beatles, and a few others, as the bridal party entered the scene.

I didn’t believe it, but as Danielle was walking down the aisle, the sun was shining! It was an incredible turn of events for the weather, and it set the tone for the rest of the day. The cocktail hour was outside in the patio area of the venue, and the weather was just getting bettter, and better!

When it came time for the intros, they were a lot of fun, and afterwards, we transitioned into dinnertimes. The food was provided by The Uncommon Caterer out of Harrisburg, and I’m not lying when I say that it’s some of the best food I’ve had at a wedding in a long, long time. Absolutely Delicious.

After dinner, we had dancing, cake, a photobooth, and generally, a fun time all around. Danielle and Christopher were an absolute delight to work with and their guests kept the spot-on requests coming from the time I opened up the dance floor. We’re actually going to be back at the Armstrong Valley Winery this weekend for Nikki and Tug’s wedding, so we’re looking forward to being back in such a neat venue.
