Albright Recap

The second wedding of the weekend was at Historic Shady Lane, in Manchester, PA. For those of you who haven’t been there yet, it’s a really neat venue in the northern York area – the first time we’d been there. This property was absolutely gorgeous, but more on that in a minute – we were there to help Casey Rohrbaugh and Chris Albright become Mr. and Mrs. Albright, and it truly was an epic evening for all.

We’ve known and worked with this cluster of family and friends – it started with Laura* and Harry Brown, then Laura’s sister Melissa and her husband Eric Albright. This was for Eric’s brother Chris and Melissa’s best friend Casey. One of the most rewarding things about doing this as long as we have is being referred within a family and friend group – we get to know people, become friends, and see them and their families grow. It’s really awesome.

So back to the big day. We were there to do the ceremony, the cocktail hour, and the reception. To fully understand this wedding, you have to put it in terms of how awesome the property was. Historic Shady Lane is a centuries-old property with several mansions, houses, and other scenic areas, all within a few hundred yards of each other.

The ceremony took place in this big open, flat, gently-downhill-sloping glen, surrounded by trees in about a 200 yard radius. Really amazing. The ceremony was a little windy but we made it work.

Then we moved uphill a hundred yards or so to a greenhouse where cocktail hour would take place. The greenhouse had a really interesting look – rustic, austere, and definitely historic looking. We had worked out a pretty good playlist worked out with Casey in advance and while they ate cocktail fare, we played some good tunes.

When the reception came around, the intros set the tone for the rest of the evening. Chris had the idea of doing a Chicago-Bulls-style intros. We played ‘Sirius’, the song that the Bulls are intro-ed to, and announced each bridal party member with their own little factoid (as told to us by the bride), in a totally over-the-top way. The crowd ate it up, and before long, we were well into dinner, several great toasts, and great times to be had by all.

Another quick note about Shady Lane – the tent was set up over a century-old tennis court. Everything about this place was full of character, originality, and history.

One thing that we did this time around that we don’t often get the opportunity to do is the ‘shoe game’. If you don’t know what it is, just Google it – the guests thought it was hilarious and we felt lucky to be in such close company.

When dancetimes rolled around, Casey wanted her reception’s dance atmosphere to be a mix between modern Top-40, older 90’s dance, and some undeniably classic dance tracks that really sit well with a crowd that came to cut loose.

Near the end of the evening, they went outside and lit paper lanterns. I’d said before that we’d DJ’d Melissa and Eric Albright’s wedding. They had attempted to pull off a similar thing – outdoor paper lantern send-off, but due to high winds, it didn’t go as well as planned. Casey and Chris had brought a second lantern for them to release, as thanks for being awesome friends all these years. It really was a touching moment.

Also, a big shout out to the everyone we worked with: Steve and Lauren at the Historic Shady Lane, Heidi & Caitlyn from A Perfect Day Wedding Planning, Jim & Nena’s Catering, and of course – our favorite photographer *Laura Brown of Laura J. Brown Photography!
