Zigler Recap

Greetings, everyone! Hope you all had as great a weekend as we did. I gotta say, doing two weddings in a weekend can be exhausting, but it’s something Eric and I need to prepare for as this season is shaping up to be our busiest yet. It’s nice to have a quiet morning like this to regroup and recap what we were up to over the past 48 hours, and the perfect soundtrack for me as I write this is Beck’s newest album, ‘Morning Phase’.

Saturday’s wedding was in Carlisle at the Comfort Suites right in the heart of the town. It’s a nice venue that we’ve worked before; one of our favorite aspects of it from a vendor standpoint is how responsive and attentive the catering/event staff is. The room itself is really nice – it’s got a lower ceiling, but it’s wide and long, which makes for a larger sense of space without requiring a huge vertical footprint.

We’d originally found Kate Piccolo and Dylan Zigler because they were into the same music that we were – indie, 90’s hip-hop, lots of good stuff. We had so much in common musically that when it came time to talk about music and playlisting it was like we were finishing each other’s sentences (sandwiches?) for the dinner and dancing times.

Their cocktail hour was a veritable who’s-who of some of our favorite indie music right now, and Kate hand-picked the songs for dinner, which set a nice tone for the rest of the evening. Their first dance caught Eric and I off-guard; you’ve probably heard the song “Make You Feel My Love”, as performed by Adele. Kate and Dylan’s first dance was Bob Dylan’s version, and upon further digging, it turns out he actually wrote the song, then Billy Joel performed it, then a LOT of other people performed it, and then Adele really put it on the map. So it was a neat little tidbit for us to learn and it was a perfect song for the two of them.

When dance times rolled around, we kept things old-school and crowd-favorites for a while, then ratcheted forward to some of the best in 90’s hip hop. Kate and Dylan had a big soft spot for the glory days of mid-90’s dance tracks – yet another thing we had in common with them – and we were more than happy to oblige.

One thing that’s been really neat so far this season is to see how the sing-along-songs are changing, in terms of preferences. 2 years ago, crowds used to go crazy for “Sweet Caroline”, and “Don’t Stop Believing”. A song that we never would have thought could compete with those two, but has brought the roof down for two consecutive weddings now, is The Proclaimers’ hit “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)”. Absolutely fantastic – and we’re not sure if it has anything to do with How I Met Your Mother, but either way, we’re happy to have another awesome song in the sing-along arsenal that we know people are going to love.

Parent Dances!

Kate and Dylan were a blast to work with, and we wish them well and hope they have an awesome time on their honeymoon. We love working with couples who put thought into the music and collaborate with us to make the soundtrack unforgettable.
