Top 5 Men’s Fashion Tips, The Engagement Shoot

This edition of The Top 5 Things is centered around Men’s Fashion, specifically how a guy should dress for the engagement photo shoot. There’s a wealth of women’s fashion advice in terms of the engagement shoot/wedding fashion, but not much attention is given to the guys.

Today’s guest blogger is Miguel A. Guadarrama, a men’s fashion expert.

He’s a close friend of Eric and Mike’s and was a groomsman in Eric’s wedding. Miguel definitely always dresses to impress, everywhere and that’s why we present to you, Miguel’s Fashion Tips:

Aside from preparing for the arrival of a baby, planning for a wedding is possibly one of the most stressful events a couple will go through. After all, this is supposed to be a special day for the two of you, a day you will never forget.

You will stress yourselves with what colors to choose for the wedding, what food to serve and who will DJ at the reception. Then there is the one question that most men hate to ask themselves, “What do my groomsmen and I wear at the engagement shoot and the wedding?”

No need to stress guys, what to wear is simple and we will break it down for you and make sure that you will look almost as good as your wife-to-be, on your special day.

Engagement Shoot
Though the engagement shoot will not be as formal as the wedding pictures, let’s keep in mind that these pictures will also be in your wedding album, so why not look your sharpest?

First thing, dress appropriately for the season. If the photo shoot is in the summer, dress like it is the summer. You do not want your engagement and wedding pictures to look the same, so one way of doing that is making it seem like you have a season or two in between the engagement shoot and the wedding pictures.

Most men will like to hear this, as far as what to wear, tone it down a bit for the engagement shoot. Not too much, don’t pull out your cargo shorts and sneakers quite yet. Just remember, that you do not need a suit for this shoot. Confusing, right, so what do you wear? Here are some suggestions…

Fall/Winter
Sport Coat (Tweed or Velvet)
Cardigan
V-Neck Sweater
Vest
Neck Tie
Bow Tie
Scarf
Dress Jeans
Slacks (This may dress-up the photos a bit, unless that is the look you are going for, avoid slacks)
Lace-Up dress shoes
Pocket Silk/Handkerchief

Spring/Summer
Sport Coat (Silk or Linen)
Seersucker Suit (This is the only suit that will be casual enough for an engagement shoot)
Light-Weight Cardigan
Vest (Linen)
V-Neck Tee Shirt (Make sure it is appropriate for a shoot, so keep it simple, No Designs!)
Neck Tie
Bow Tie
Light-Weight Slacks
Dress Shorts (They do exist)
Dress Jeans
Loafers
Boat Shoes
Lace-Up dress shoes
Pocket Silk/Handkerchief

Here are my Top 5 Engagement Shoot Ensembles for Men:
1. Seersucker suit, great summer look.

2. Silk/linen sport coat with jeans, very nice spring/summer look.

3. I’m showing off the colorful light weight slacks that are perfect for spring/summer.

4. This is a dynamite outfit, love the tweed jacket with the v-neck sweater and skinny tie, awesome for the fall/winter.

5. One of my favorite looks, a tweed vest with a skinny tie and jeans. Great for the fall/winter.
